A personal shopper in Berlin usually costs between 80 and 150 euros an hour. My rate is 85 euros an hour, the same for every service. What ends up on your bill depends less on the hourly rate than on how many hours you actually need, and that question rarely gets an honest answer.
What does a consultation actually cost?
Most personal shoppers and stylists in Berlin charge by the hour. Flat-rate packages sound more convenient, but they are almost always either calculated too tightly or padded with a buffer that you end up paying for.
With me, every hour costs 85 euros, whether we are standing in front of your wardrobe, putting outfits together or walking through Berlin's shops. No flat fees, no travel costs within Berlin, no hidden extras.
Realistic figures from my practice:
- Wardrobe check: from 2 hours, usually 3 to 4, so roughly 255 to 340 euros
- Wardrobe clear-out (wardrobe cleaning): 3 to 4 hours, more for walk-in closets
- Styling date with photos: from 2 hours
- Personal shopping tour: at least 5 hours, often six to eight the first time
The whole consultation can be in English, and if you are only in Berlin for a few days, you can book the shopping tour on its own.
Why does a shopping tour take so long?
Because buying isn't the art. Choosing is. I have been doing these tours since 6 January 2013. After hundreds and hundreds of consultations, I can say with some confidence: putting together a new wardrobe in two hours doesn't work.
We try on a lot. Sometimes you try on five pairs of black trousers, and the first pair turns out to be the best after all. That is exactly what the time is for. Anyone who promises you a complete wardrobe in two hours is selling you a quick shopping trip, not a consultation.
Do I pay for the clothes on top of the fee?
Yes. The consultation fee and your shopping budget are two separate things. You pay the fee to me, you spend the budget in the shops, and you alone decide how high it is.
I work with any budget. Whether we shop at Zara and COS or in concept stores changes nothing about my work, only the shops we head for. As for the budget: we talk about it beforehand, so I don't take you into stores where you feel uncomfortable.
When does a fashion consultation pay off?
It pays off the moment the bad buys stop. Most people who come to me don't own too few clothes. They own too much of the wrong thing: pieces that still have the tags on because they looked good in the store and go with nothing at home.
Add up what is hanging unworn in your wardrobe. For most people, that sum is well above the fee for a consultation. The difference: after a consultation, you know why a piece works, and next time you shop better on your own.
Is there a less expensive way to start?
Yes. You don't have to start with the big shopping tour. A two-hour wardrobe check already shows you what you have, what is missing and what can go. Many of my clients start this way and only book the tour afterward, but then with a concrete shopping list instead of a vague feeling.
If you are not sure which service is right for you, you will find all packages with their process and timing on the page about fashion consulting in Berlin. And if you would like to give someone a consultation as a present: a gift voucher works for every service, including any amount you choose.
Frequently asked questions about the cost
Do I have to book all the hours in advance?
No. We agree on a time frame, and if we finish earlier, you pay less. For a shopping tour, though, I ask you to keep the afternoon free. Results under time pressure are rarely good.
Are there travel costs?
Not within Berlin. For appointments outside the city, we discuss it beforehand.
Can I deduct a consultation from my taxes?
That depends on your professional situation and is a question for your tax advisor. There is no general answer.
